Who are we?
Osswa Jiu-jitsu
“Osswa” is an adapted transliteration of a noun found in the Qur'an often translated as ‘example’. It is taken from verse 33:21, in the chapter of the Coalition, where we are informed that
“There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of God a beautiful example”
The final Messenger of God, Muhammad (peace be upon him) was a man of great athleticism and a master grappler.
He victoriously grappled the greatest wrestler in Arabia, Rukana ibn Abi Yazid on multiple occasions and emphasised wrestling as a practice to all. In fact, in order to enlist themselves eligible to participate in military campaigns, candidates would be required pass a grappling test in front of Muhammad (al-Musara ila al-Musara, as-Suyuti).
The men & women around the Messenger, his Companions, were equally people of the martial arts, who were versed in archery, sword & spear fighting, performed amazing feats of human strength and regularly grappled amongst themselves.
Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art developed over a number of centuries in Japan, more recently refined and popularised by the Gracie family in Brazil (from where it takes the prefix, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or BJJ). It is considered part of the grappling family of arts, and as such, shares technical qualities that constitute a fulfilling of the Prophetic art of Wrestling.

Authenticity and authority are maintained through lineage and we are particularly honoured to preserve our chain of instruction back through the legendary Grand Master Carlson Gracie, a formidable champion who’s fighting philosophy and accomplishments are deeply admired by all. Character Refinement
The art of Jiu-jitsu is one which has an impact upon the practitioner's physical and mental realities.
The efficacy of this martial art has been well established and bears a popular draw. However, its internally transformative effect, on refining ones character, conduct and outlook on life, is unique.
It is with this goal of self-transformation and refinement, along with emulating the practice of those who preceded us, Osswa-Jiu-jitsu seeks to aid the practitioner, forging a refined character, a fighting spirit and a conditioned form. Follow the example.
